Its expected that by the 1st of June 2019 local governments won’t have state governments tampering with their allocations, according to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) new financial guidelines.
The NFIU has banned banks, governors, financial institutions, public officers and other stakeholders from tampering with the statutory allocations of local governments beginning from next month.
An infotag Benue investigation reveals that Over N475 billion of the monthly federal allocations has accrued to the 23 local governments of Benue State between June 2007 and March 2019.
See below what each of the 23 LGAs in Benue state got as its share of the Federal allocation between June 2007 to March 2019 across two different elected government.
One question comes to mind: Is there an evidence that these huge funds ever reached the local government councils?
And will the new financial guideline make any difference?
