The Benue State House of Assembly has passed the state’s Appropriation Bill of N190.03 billion for the 2018 fiscal year with an increment of over N11Billion over the N178.3billion that was presented to the Assembly by Governor Samuel Ortom last December.
The Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Appropriation, Mr. Adam Okloho, while leading debate on his committee’s report, explained that the N11 billion is as a result of non-inclusion of some on-going projects by the Ministry of Finance and additional request by Pubic Sector Entities (PSEs) for inclusion of some critical projects which were omitted from the initial estimates.
Will the 2018 approved budget have any impact on the state taking into cognizance how the 2017 budget under-performed? And with the governorship election looming on the horizon?
For a government that project itself of being transparent and accountable, will the approved 2018 budget be published online for Benue people to track its’ implementation?
However, with given the state government’s decision of published online the Benue Anti Open Grazing law , it will not be out of place to have the approved budget also published online so that Benue citizens can engage track how the government is working for them.
Another strong reason why an #OpenBenue is imperative.
